A track official or “stager” will be on hand to help remind you of your lane assignment and guide you into a staging “chute” and then onto the gate when it is your moto’s turn to race.
Staging is that area comprising the back of the start hill, the starter’s booth or tower, the starting pad, and the start gate itself. And you know how many and how riders will transfer from each of your qualifying rounds. So, now you’ve found a track, come prepared with your bike and bike helmet, become a USA BMX member and signed-up to race, hopefully taken some practice laps, and read the moto sheets to determine your moto number as well as your gate numbers/lane assignments. *At any given USA BMX race, if there are not enough entrants to form a legal class, racers may be matched against racers of different ages and proficiency levels as per USA BMX race rules. But while the cruiser classes, like the 20” classes, are age and gender based, they are not divided into the novice, intermediate or expert proficiency levels. The 20” bikes are the required size for all Novice, Intermediate, Girl and Expert competition, while the 24” bikes are the required size for all Cruiser competition. But while Girl is the highest proficiency level in the sport for amateur girls, Intermediate boys-after 20 more wins-move into the EXPERT class the highest proficiency level in the sport for amateur boys.įinally, there are two bike categories, based on wheel size/diameter-20” wheel BMX bikes called class bikes, and 24” wheel BMX bikes called cruiser bikes. Upon winning 10 races, Novice boys move into the INTERMEDIATE class, while Novice girls move into the GIRL class. *Įveryone - boys and girls - begins in the NOVICE class. As BMX racing is a sport for kids of all ages, even big kids with kids of their own, you will be matched against riders your own age and proficiency or skill level whenever possible. I also had a crush on the redline PL20, that was the one bike that had me beat in the hood.USA BMX uses 4 criteria to determine a racer’s classification for competition-age, gender, proficiency and wheel size. My older brother had the same bike, but it got stolen. I remember all the bikes in the neighborhood, mongoose, schwinn predator, Hutch, Haro, Team Murry, and GT, but everyone gave respect to the redline, I was so proud of that bike.
Even the stickers are in great shape, this was a well built bike, god knows how many miles are on it. My son who is 3 1/2 will some day be riding the 500a. I love the old days of BMX it was nice to see other people have fond memories of their 500a.
I also put on a odyssey bear claw brake, all done in 1984. I put on cw bars, odyssey six bolt neck, odyssey lay back seat post, and odyssey flip down pegs. In college I dusted it off and rode it to class. I still have my 1984 redline 500a in great condition. The Store made me a deal that I have to leave the Bike in the Store for display at least 3 months and I agree which was good anyways because it cost me almost $400.00 and i needed time to come up with cash ( Car Washing and raking leaves in Neighbors Yards, Hahahah), boy i was happy, that’s how Redline Bike’s were introduced to my country, every body liked it and they started to order them like crazy, So I had the first Redline in Aruba, that bike was the most awesome bike i had. But i kept going to the store every other day and i didn’t give up till i have convince them and after 5 to 6 months later they ordered one for me. Since I was 14 years old I went to the Store with my 18 year brother and ask to speak with the Manager to try to convince them to order one for me but since this was a different brand they never heard of it back than they refused. I looked at the picture every day and only talked about the bike the hole time. Waw this brings me lot’s of memories,I am from ARUBA ( Dutch Island in the Caribbean) I remember I saw and ad in the BMX magazine back than and I fall in love with the Redline 500a in Chrome but the problem was that we only have on bike store on the Island and they only sell Haro, Hutch and GT Bmx bikes.
